The School of Education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Health Education and Professional Studies invites applications for a full time tenure-track assistant professor faculty position in Special Education beginning August 1, 2021. Special Education at UTC include both Interdisciplinary Educational Studies: Exceptional Learning K-8 Interventionist and IES: Exceptional Learning: K-12 Comprehensive teacher education programs. The faculty member will contribute to a rich tradition of teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting research, and providing professional service in a setting with excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Successful candidates must have a strong interest in and commitment to teacher education, collaboration, inclusion, and diversity. The School of Education is recognized as a part of an engaged metropolitan university with extensive partnerships with community organizations.

Key Area of Responsilbility:
Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:

Doctorate in Exceptional Education or closely-related field. Individuals who are (ABD) will be considered for faculty positions at UTC; however, the degree must be awarded within twelve months of the first semester of employment.

Primary Qualifications:
  • Three or more years of experience as a K-12 special education teacher
  • Experience teaching/supporting special education students in K-12 inclusive general education classrooms
  • Experience with and/or willingness to prepare preservice teachers to successfully serve as an interventionists or comprehensive teacher
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in instruction and supervision
  • Potential or emerging line of research
  • Willingness to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction
  • Willingness to assist in reaching additional goals of UTC's Strategic Plan

Secondary Qualifications:
  • Experience adapting general education curriculum, instruction, and assessments for students with disabilities
  • Experience developing community partnerships that enhance teacher preparation through mentorship and/or coaching models
  • Teaching experience in elementary general education, public school settings
  • Membership and involvement in professional organizations, such as CEC, NAGC,TASH, NASET
  • Experience with and knowledge of preparing others for successful completion of edTPA
  • Experience with behavior modification for K-12 schools or other educational settings

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in special education and other general education courses as needed in a teaching-focused department
  • Engaging in an active research and publication agenda
  • Supervising and planning field experiences and/or residency/internship experiences
  • Participating in service to the university, community and profession
  • Advising undergraduate and graduate students
  • Commitment to cultural diversity collaboration, and social justice
