The University of Alaska Southeast's School of Education invites applications for two full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education positions to complement existing expertise and contribute to our program. The faculty welcome candidates from various specialties in special education (e.g., Autism, transition, early childhood, academic intervention, educational psychology, diagnostics, etc). This position will begin with the 2023/2024 academic year. Our Special Education program prepares teachers for both initial licensure and advanced degrees. We seek a faculty member with demonstrated potential for creative and effective teaching in a virtual environment and clinical supervision. The faculty member should have a strong track record of teaching and work with those having diverse ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. Located in the ancestral homeland of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples, the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is fully committed to advancing the education and research aspirations of Indigenous peoples and is committed to ongoing work toward decolonization. These efforts are reflected in our UAS programs and formal community partnerships across our three campuses and throughout all of Southeast Alaska.

Duties:

100%Teach online undergraduate and graduate courses in UAS Special Education degree programs. Design and teach courses consistent with specific course descriptions and student learning outcomes. Mentor and supervise teacher candidates either face to face or virtually. Be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum. Contribute in student recruitment and retention efforts to increase enrollment. Participate in CAEP accreditation processes. Perform school, university, and community service.Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Experience with Indigenous populations of students and communities;
Experience supervising, mentoring, or training adult learners/educators;
Familiarity in working with "non-traditional students"/diverse populations of adult learners
Experience with Alaskan or rural P-12 schools;
Experience in using digital productivity tools (i.e., Google documents, Zoom);
Familiarity with the delivery of distance education;
Education or teaching experience in the field of culturally responsive teaching, multicultural education, and/or working with diverse populations;
Extensive knowledge of differentiated instruction, assessment strategies, education technology, and current issues in education;
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills;
Knowledge or experience with coordinating CAEP accreditation processes or: Experience with accreditation processes for public or university school settings;
Willingness to partner with Alaska's school districts and travel to rural and urban sites in Alaska for candidate supervision.
Familiarity with Council for Exceptional Children standards and with Special Education course content.
Ability to coordinate and work collaboratively

Required Experience: 3 years or more of experience teaching pK-12 in the field of Special Education.
Higher Education teaching experience preferred.

Required Education or Training:
Earned Ph.D.in Special Education or a related field or expected completion within a reasonable timeframe.
Willing to enroll in a terminal degree program considered.
Minimum three years professional experience in the field of Special Education.

Salary Information:
This is a regular full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with salary and rank based on experience. Desired start day is 08/14/2023. This position is covered by the UNAC collective bargaining agreement.
