Assistant or Associate Professor of Special Education (Transition Emphasis)

The Department of Educational Psychology invites applicants for a new faculty position in special education at the assistant (tenure-track) or associate (tenure negotiable) rank. We seek an emerging or established scholar whose research addresses the transition to adulthood for youth with disabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintaining a program of impactful empirical research in the area of transition services for youth with disabilities.
Teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level (special education program).
Recruiting, mentoring, and supervising graduate students on theses and dissertations.
Providing service to the department, university, and profession.
Contributing to the development of the special education program.
Working with students, families, schools, and/or communities from a range of diverse backgrounds.
Pursuing grants and external funding.
Working with diverse students, families, and/or communities.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Educational Psychology in Baylor's School of Education emphasizes interdisciplinary research and training to improve services and outcomes for children and youth from diverse backgrounds. We offer undergraduate and graduate programs in applied behavior analysis, gifted and talented education, school psychology, special education, and quantitative research methods. Our faculty are passionate about conducting rigorous and relevant research as we prepare future practitioners, scholars, researchers, and leaders. Our special education program addresses pressing needs in the field by equipping the next generation of educators and faculty.

CENTER: The Baylor Center on Development Disabilities (https://bcdd.soe.baylor.edu) invests in research, training, outreach, and clinical services that promote the flourishing of people with disabilities, their families, and communities. This interdisciplinary Center hosts a growing number of programs, clinics, projects, and events focused on addressing pressing needs in our community and state. It strives to partner with school districts, disability organizations, and community groups to meet the needs of individuals and families from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds. The Center aims to expand its portfolio of work focused on secondary education and transition for youth and young adults with disabilities, including those with intellectual disabilities.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:

Earned doctorate in special education, rehabilitation, or related field.
Expertise in the areas of secondary education, transition services, special education, and/or inclusive education.
At least two years of experience teaching or providing other direct services to individuals with disabilities.
Commitment to advancing the Christian mission of Baylor in research, teaching, and service.
