Job Description

The School of Education (SOE) at Nevada State College (NSC) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Special Education to begin in the Fall of 2022. The selected candidate would teach survey, characteristics, methods, assessment, and other courses in special education that lead to a Nevada teaching license in Generalist Special Education, Autism, Intellectual Disability, and/or Early Childhood Special Education. SOE faculty have teaching expectations that include developing and teaching courses, participating in curriculum design and program evaluation, and advising students, among others. Additionally, faculty have the opportunity to engage in a wide array of exciting service and scholarship activities during the academic year and in summers.

About the School of Education

Our School of Education (SOE) is an exciting place to be! More than 1,200 undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students are pursuing degrees and licensure programs.

In response to a statewide shortage of PreK-12 educators, NSC has made a strong commitment to building out the School of Education (SOE). In addition to building out existing baccalaureate granting degree programs in elementary education, secondary education, special education, and speech-language pathology, new programs have been added. The College's first Master's Degree in Speech-Pathology was launched in the Fall of 2019. A dual licensure Elementary Education/Bilingual Education program was launched in the Fall of 2020 and in the Fall of 2021, the SOE launched the state's first dual licensure baccalaureate level program in Early Childhood Education/Early Childhood Special Education. Success in obtaining external grants has further fueled growth initiatives. Two Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) grants target diverse educator recruitment and retention and provide innovative opportunities for faculty to engage with PK-12 schools in educator pipeline initiatives. Several other grants contribute to growth efforts.

The School of Education also moved into the Christenson Education Building (CEB) in the Fall of 2021; in addition to providing a learner-centered, collaborative environment for students, faculty, and staff, the CEB features two community-serving entities--an Early Childhood Education Center and a Speech-Language Pathology Clinic. Both of these entities serve the southern Nevada community and provide high quality clinical experiences for SOE majors.
