Director of The Academic Resource Center and Disability Services

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director plans, implements, supervises, and assesses the Academic Resource Center's services, programs, and outreach efforts including Academic Success Coaching, Disability Services, Supplemental Instruction, Tutoring, and the Writing Center. In conjunction with the Associate Dean of Student Success, the director will set objectives for the Center that are consistent with institutional priorities to promote student success, ensure access, and to enhance the educational experience of all students. The Director maintains the quality, coherence, and continuity of the overall programs and assumes an active role in promoting and supporting academic achievement. Additionally, this position provides oversight and direct services to ensure students with disabilities have equitable access to all University programs and activities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of Rehabilitation Act, and applicable federal and state laws.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Work with the Academic Resource Center staff to create, revise and update policies and to provide inclusive academic support services.
  • Evaluate the utilization, effectiveness, and impact of programs and services and take actions to build upon strengths, resolve challenges, and remove barriers getting in the way of student success.
  • Benchmark and assess program goals and outcomes in alignment with best practices.
  • Collaborate across campus to develop and deliver faculty, staff, and student development workshops on topics such as learning strategies, universal design, and access in the classroom, etc.
  • Collaborate with the university's institutional research department to collect and analyze data related to retention, disability services, and other key Academic Resource Center data.
  • Facilitate university compliance with the legal requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as related to student issues. Collaborate with university administrators and other departments as necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures necessary for determining reasonable accommodations across university programs in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Assess, recommend, approve, and coordinate reasonable accommodations in compliance with the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Manage a caseload of students with disabilities, while also providing guidance and leadership to others within the Academic Resource Center who manage cases directly.
  • In partnership with the Counseling Center, recruit and supervise doctoral practicum students who provide assessment and diagnostic services to students.
  • Facilitate the spiritual growth and development of students through the integration of faith and learning within programming, co-curricular activities, and personal interactions.
  • Creates budgets, monitors expenditures, and allocates resources for the Academic Resource Center programs and activities.
  • Serve as the University resource person for interpretation of, and compliance with, federal and state regulations related to supporting individuals with disabilities. Provide professional consultation regarding disability issues to major divisions of the university as needed.
  • Serve as the lead in the implementation of disability policies and procedures for the university.
  • Serve as resource on adaptive equipment and Assistive Technology for people with disabilities.
  • Make final determinations regarding allegations of discrimination and non-compliance based on disability.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on the needs of the university.
  • In conjunction with Risk Manager, assess and mitigate risk in areas of responsibility

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree preferred in Student Affairs, Education, Special Education, Educational Counseling/Psychology or related field.
  • 5 years or more of experience and progressive responsibility in higher education in Student Support Services, Disability Services, or Student Life.
  • Understanding of legal requirements of the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership and management experience.
  • Understand the crucial role academic support services play in higher education with respect to increasing student access, engagement, and success.
  • Knowledge of the national conversation related to student academic support.
  • Well versed in theories of learning and human development.
  • Has knowledge of and promotes evidence-based practices within the areas that fall under the Academic Resource Center.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments/projects and maintaining records.
  • Demonstrated effective supervisory, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency on Microsoft Office and various data compilation programs such as Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Project management experience and/or certification(s)
  • Data visualization skills
  • Experience managing grant-funded programs
  • Proficiency using Titanium.

    SALARY:
    Full-time position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and includes a generous benefits package.
